 The history of radio can be traced back to the discovery of electromagnetic radiation in the late 1800s. This discovery led to the development of wireless communication, and eventually to the invention of the radio. The first radio wave was transmitted in 1896 by Italian physicist Guglielmo Marconi. He sent a Morse code message over a distance of two miles.

The first commercial radio station was established in 1920, and by the end of the decade, radio broadcasting had become popular in the United States. During this time, radio programming was used primarily for entertainment purposes, such as live music and comedy shows. As technology improved, radio programming began to include news and sports broadcasts, as well as educational programs. In the 1940s, FM radio was developed and this technology allowed for better sound quality than AM radio. This improvement in sound quality allowed for a greater variety of programming. In the 1950s, the first commercial television broadcasts began to take over the airwaves. This led to a decline in radio programming, as television was seen as the more modern and attractive medium for entertainment.
